Bravery to us...........................
Our middle daugher, Lauren, went with Fiona and me to the appointment yesterday to see the liver doctor. He was glad to hear that Fiona had the appointments with UCLA and hoped things will go well and that they will agree to put her on the list and get a transplant. We explained that Lauren is willing to be a living donor but we had a lot of quesitons. He spent time answering them and explaining the dangers and that we would probably have to change centers for living donors as it isn't a preference at UCLA. He explained the cost, risks, time down, etc. It was really hard to hear some of these things as transplant as always been something "in the future" for Fiona and now it is becoming more and more a real. It is no longer "if" she will need one, it is "when" she will get one. I just am in awe that one of sisters would offer to give her an organ so unselfishly. In fact, my oldest daughter, who has her own very serious health problems would be willing to donate but we know she wouldn't be a good candidate. The love between these sisters is so deep and pure it warms my heart.
Fiona and I went to lunch with a long time dear teacher friend of mine. We had a wonderful time and at the end my friend said how wonderful Fiona looked. You would never know she was so ill. I am so grateful that Fiona was able to go out with us. That she is able to do some little things and that this end stage hasn't completely disabled her from some things in life. She is getting through this with such strength and courage. I find it amazing how she is maturing and handling this as the next step in her life. She is reading all the materials this time that UCLA sent. She even discussed not being able to eat foods with a lot of potassium in them after transplant with the her liver doctor. She is facing transplant with courage, faith and BRAVERY.

Do you know why Fiona is brave? because she has wonderfully supportive loving mother and great big sisters. Lauren is awfully brave too for wanting to save her baby sister's life. God Bless her!
